We were out in the Clackamas and Happy Valley area recently servicing a Trane XR14 heat pump - one of the more reliable units out there, but even solid equipment needs regular attention to keep running at its best.

Here's what most homeowners don't think about: heat pumps work year-round. Unlike a furnace that sits dormant all summer, a heat pump is always doing something - cooling in the summer, heating in the winter. That constant workload means components wear down, refrigerant levels can drift, and small issues can quietly build into expensive problems.

During this service call, we tested key components and checked refrigerant levels to make sure everything was operating within spec. That kind of thorough check is what separates a real maintenance visit from a quick once-over. We want to know exactly what the system is doing so we can catch anything that looks off before it turns into a breakdown.

Trane systems are built tough, but they still need a trained eye on them regularly. The XR14 is a workhorse - when it's properly maintained, it runs efficiently and lasts. Skip the maintenance, and you're rolling the dice on both comfort and cost.

If you've got a heat pump and you can't remember the last time it was serviced, that's worth paying attention to. Regular HVAC maintenance is one of the simplest ways to protect your investment and keep your home comfortable no matter the season.
