Most mini splits look fine from the outside. Clean cover, no weird noises, still blowing air. But what's going on inside is a completely different story. Over time, dust, mold, and grime build up on the coils and blower components - and your system just keeps pushing all of that into the air you're breathing every day.
That's exactly what we were dealing with on this LG Neo Plasma ductless unit. The evaporator coil was packed with black buildup, and the drain pan had a layer of grime sitting in it. This kind of accumulation doesn't happen overnight - it's the result of a system that's been running hard without a proper cleaning. It's common, and it's fixable.
We opened the unit up and went to work flushing out the coil and cleaning the internal components thoroughly. The bucket of pitch-black water we pulled out tells the whole story. That's what was sitting inside the unit - and what would have kept circulating through the air without this service. Getting it out is the whole point.
A dirty mini split doesn't just affect air quality. It restricts airflow, forces the system to work harder than it needs to, and can shorten the life of the equipment. A good deep cleaning is one of the best things you can do for a ductless system - and it's a core part of any solid HVAC maintenance routine. After the flush, the coil and drain pan were noticeably cleaner, and the unit was ready to run the way it was designed to.
If your mini split hasn't had a professional cleaning in a while - or ever - it's worth getting it looked at. You might be surprised what's built up inside.
