We were out in McMinnville recently servicing a Lennox variable speed heat pump. Variable speed systems are some of the more sophisticated equipment out there - they modulate their output based on what the home actually needs, rather than just running at full blast. That means they need a trained eye to make sure everything is dialed in correctly.
Here's the thing about heat pumps - they work year-round. Cooling in summer, heating in winter. So when one is neglected, it's not like a system that only gets used a few months out of the year. The wear adds up faster, and so do the problems.
Regular HVAC maintenance on a system like this isn't just about catching something before it breaks. It's also about efficiency. A variable speed unit that's running with dirty coils, low refrigerant, or worn components isn't running the way it was designed to. You end up paying more on your energy bill and getting less comfort out of it.
We went through the full tune-up on this Lennox unit - checking the refrigerant charge, inspecting electrical components, making sure the coils were clean and airflow was unrestricted. The goal is always the same: leave the system in better shape than we found it, so it's ready to handle whatever the seasons throw at it.
If you've got a heat pump that hasn't been serviced in a while - especially a higher-end variable speed system - it's worth getting it looked at before a small issue turns into a big repair.
