Most homes run on a single heat source - either a furnace or a heat pump. A dual fuel system gives you both, and that changes the game entirely. The outdoor heat pump handles the heavy lifting during milder temps, running efficiently without burning gas. When it gets really cold and a heat pump loses its edge, the gas furnace kicks in automatically. The result is year-round comfort without wasting energy.
Here's what we installed for this home - a Lennox side discharge heat pump powered by Samsung technology paired with a Lennox gas furnace inside. These two pieces of equipment communicate with each other to figure out which mode makes the most sense based on outdoor conditions. You don't have to think about it. The system does.
The side discharge design on the outdoor unit is worth pointing out. Standard units discharge air straight up. Side discharge moves that airflow horizontally, which works better in tight spaces and keeps performance consistent even in less-than-ideal placement spots. We sized and positioned the unit on a proper pad with leveling feet - the kind of small details that keep equipment running cleanly for years.
Inside, the Lennox furnace is tucked into a utility space with the gas line, service record, and all connections neatly done. We attach a Hajek Heating and Cooling service record card to every install so the homeowner always has a reference point for what's in their home and when work was done. It's a simple thing, but it matters.
Dual fuel systems aren't a one-size-fits-all solution - they work best when they're spec'd and installed correctly. We've done enough of these to know what works and what doesn't. If your current setup is struggling to keep up or you're thinking about a smarter heating and cooling option, this kind of system is worth a serious look.
