If your AC is running but the house just won't cool down, low refrigerant is one of the first things we check. It's one of the most common reasons a system underperforms - and it's also one of the easiest problems to overlook until it snowballs into something worse.

On this Woodburn call, that's exactly what we found. The Lennox outdoor unit was running fine on the surface, but a refrigerant check told a different story. The system was low, which means it was working harder than it should and still falling short. Not a comfortable situation, especially heading deeper into summer.

Low refrigerant doesn't fix itself. Over time, running a system that's short on charge puts unnecessary strain on the compressor - which is the most expensive component in the whole setup. Catching it early, like we did here, keeps that from turning into a much bigger repair bill down the road.

We also checked the air handler and evaporator coil inside to make sure everything tied together properly. When refrigerant is low, it's important to look at the full system - not just top it off and call it a day. You want to know where it went and whether there's a leak that needs to be addressed.

If your AC seems like it's struggling to keep up, don't brush it off. A quick diagnostic can tell you a lot, and getting ahead of small issues is always better than waiting until the system quits on you entirely.
