We've been busy out in Beaverton getting fireplaces dialed in before the cold really settles in. Tune-ups, blower kit installs, full inspections - this is the kind of work that makes a real difference once you're actually running your fireplace on a regular basis.
Here's something a lot of homeowners don't realize: a gas fireplace that runs fine isn't necessarily running well. Dust buildup, worn components, and missing accessories like a blower kit can mean your unit is burning gas without pushing much heat into the room. That's not great for your comfort or your utility bill.
The blower kit is one of our favorite upgrades to add during a service call. Without one, a lot of that heat just radiates out and gets absorbed by the firebox surround. With a blower installed, warm air actually gets circulated into your living space - which is the whole point. It's a straightforward addition that makes a noticeable difference.
We work on a range of gas fireplace units, and part of what we do during a tune-up is pull everything apart, check the components, clean the glass, and make sure the unit is firing correctly before we button it back up. It's not glamorous work, but it matters. A fireplace that hasn't been serviced in a few years can develop small issues that turn into bigger ones fast.
If your fireplace has been sitting idle since last winter, now is a good time to get it looked at. Getting on the schedule before the cold hits means you're not scrambling when you actually need it.
